Mission
The organization's mission is to clean and rebuild playgrounds and youth athletic facilities in the Gulf Region that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
Objectives:

1.) Restore damaged playgrounds and youth athletic facilities in the Gulf Region.

2.) Collect and distribute sporting goods equipment to schools and recreation departments in the region.
3.) Generate awareness of the need for safe playgrounds, facilities and schools that still exist today.
Background

Sports for a Cause is a Denver, Colorado based 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization created by Brandon Tosti.  Tosti resides in Denver, Colorado, and has been employed in the sports industry for over seven years.  The project was inspired by an article that Tosti read in an August 2007 issue of Sports Illustrated.  The graphic pictures provided a shocking reality of the state of New Orleans schools and youth athletic facilities nearly 2 ½ years after the storm.  Knowing that many people wanted to help but didn’t know how or where to start, Tosti realized that the sports industry provided the perfect mix of knowledge, experience and networks necessary to successfully execute a project of this magnitude.

The program’s purpose is to provide athletic opportunities for youth, which currently do not exist in certain neighborhoods.  Some playgrounds are still condemned and some schools will have to be demolished.  Shortly thereafter, he called the Recovery School District, Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation to start the research and fact finding process that led to the establishment of the organization, Sports for a Cause.

NEWS AND UPDATES
Since 2007, we have been able to assist multiple schools and recreational programs with sports equipment donations. To date, we have donated over $100,000 in used and new equipment and led six volunteer trips to New Orleans. We are very grateful for all of our donors and volunteers, because without their support none of this would be possible. If you would like to get involved or host an equipment drive at your office, please contact us via e-mail, info@sportsforacause.org.
